I’ve always loved crafting, but it wasn’t until my daughters were little that I decided to share my creations with others. What started with hair bows and pillowcase dresses quickly blossomed into a full-time business that allows me to do what I truly love every day.

Starting with just a sewing machine, I eventually added a single-needle embroidery machine about a year later. Funny enough, that machine sat unused for almost a year before I finally had the courage to turn it on! Fast forward to today, Sixpence Handmade now operates with four commercial 16-needle embroidery machines, a growing array of specialized tools and equipment, and the original single-needle machine that started it all.

So, why the name “Sixpence Handmade”?

When this journey began, we were a family of six (now a family of seven), and I wanted a name that reflected both my family and my love for crafting. I was inspired by the tradition of the sixpence—a symbol of happiness and good fortune. It felt like the perfect way to represent what this business is all about: spreading joy and sharing a little bit of good fortune with each handmade piece.
